Dreams of Consciousness Podcast Episode 270 features an interview with Shelby Lermo of Ulthar.
Originally based in Oakland, Ulthar took a different tack from the other bands in the Bay Area scene. Over the years, their albums have become increasingly ambitious in scope and songwriting, while retaining the turbulence of early death and black metal.
I spoke with vocalist/guitarist Shelby Lermo about why chaos is an important part of Ulthar's sound, and if creating tablatures changed the way he thought about writing songs and riffs. We also discussed how Ulthar conceptualized their two concurrently released albums Anthronomicon and Helionomicon, and how he feels about those albums being his final statement to the world.
My thanks again to Shelby for speaking with me, and to you for listening.
