Liverpool (a, 7-0)

A painfully historic defeat. Liverpool 7-0 Manchester United. There are bad days at the office, and there is your joint-heaviest ever defeat. What a uniquely terrible match and moment in this season. Nevertheless, on the Manchester United Weekly Podcast, we get it all off our chests and move on as United look at setting ourselves up for Europa League progression having already won the League Cup and reached the FA Cup quarter-finals.
We know it was bad, but we’ll be considering exactly what happened because don’t get it wrong, this wasn’t like the 4-0 at Brentford or even the 6-3 at City, and it certainly wasn’t like last season’s harrowing defeats to Liverpool home and away. And that’s why it feels different. So what is different about it? And why do we get the sense that this wasn’t just bad, but utterly, utterly bizarre? That’s what we’ll be trying to answer. And then we’ll give you your regular, extensive updates on the Academy, players out on loan and United Women, who had a highly contrasting weekend with a thumping win to extend their lead at the top of the Women’s Super League. We’ll then preview Thursday night’s match against Real Betis of Seville and La Liga.
