Ep. 69 How to Forgive Your Former Self

In the process of spiritual growth it is normal to look back at our former selves and feel shame, guilt or regret over how we used to behave. We may not be able to understand how we could have thought and believed in things that no longer hold true for us. But part of our growth to integral consciousness is being able to forgive our own former selves and accept who we have been in the past so that we can move on now. Here are some steps to take toward self-acceptance and forgiveness:

  • Be able to look at your old memories and all the negative emotions they hold for you.
  • Don't judge your former self but allow your past behaviors to come to the surface.
  • Remember that your old way of being was just part of the stage you were in at that time and you were doing the best you could given the circumstances.
  • See the whole spiral of your growth and recognize that every stage has been necessary and important.
  • Apologize or make amends if needed.
  • Know that you are not meant to be perfect and even your flaws and shortcomings are a necessary part of who you are.
  • Cherish who you are - there will never be another you!
