Expat Family Life in Finland: What It’s Really Like Living in The Happiest Country in the World

Big Dreams. Bold Moves.
Big Dreams. Bold Moves.

Finland has been ranked by the UN as the #1 happiest country in the world for the last two years!

AND word on the street (find details in SHOW NOTES) is that Finland, like Germany, is facing a labor shortage. Tech companies in Finland are already actively recruiting international talent, and due to shortages in areas like healthcare, other sectors might soon follow.

HOWEVER, I couldn’t find much information on what expat life is like there, especially for families. My goal for this episode is to fill that gap.

In this episode we speak with Emily Gutman who shares the story of her family’s bold move from the US to Finland. She tells us what her experience has been, living as an expat there, and her understanding of how everything works. We talk about all the usual suspects like housing, cost of living, social benefits, healthcare, childcare and language barriers, as well as pet relocation and more!

Have a listen to learn if Finland might possibly be the happiest country in the world for your family :-)
