This week we welcome Benitha Iradukunda and Lizzay Riungu, two of the powerhouses behind the African Caribbean Society for Scotland charity for a special Black History Month episode. We get into the wonderful work the charity has put in over the last few months, including organising one of Scotland’s most successfully BLM protest in Edinburgh in the wake of George Floyd’s death and the fantastic events you can get involved in going forward.
On a personal level, Lizzay and Benitha share a few stories on growing up in Scotland, the challenges they faced in the educational system, and a few pick-up lines they’ve heard along the way that left them speechless.
if you can, make sure to donate to the ACSS GoFundMe page, and join the Facebook group and Instagram to stay updated.
Discretion advised: this episode contains explicit accounts of racism experienced, which may be unsettling for some. If you or anyone you know needs advice on any of the topics covered in this episode, please reach out to Citizens Advice or NSPCC if your concerns are related to a minor.
