Whether you have been in your job for years or only recently started, there are a few warning signs that indicate you should leave your position. Loyalty as an employee is important but knowing when to leave can be even more important for your health and your success in your career.

There’s No Room for Advancement

If you love your job, it can be really difficult to leave, but if there is no room for advancement, it may be time to find somewhere new. If you are building your career and looking to move forward, you must always have room to grow. You are likely always increasing your skills, experience, and ability, so your position and pay must reflect that growth. Once you know you can’t advance any farther at your current workplace, it may be time to find somewhere else to work.

Your Safety Isn’t Protected

If your workplace doesn’t take your safety seriously, it is time to move on. You have the right to be safe at work, and a good workplace will make sure that they take every step to keep you safe. Hazards in the workplace should be clearly identified. Failing to do so puts you at risk of injury. If you find that your workplace is unsafe, it is time to move on to a better situation.

You Aren’t Being Supported in Your Work

If you aren’t being supported in your work by management, then it may be time to leave your job. A good manager will be available to you and will help you to learn and grow in your position. They will also make sure that you have what you need to get the job done. If your manager isn’t taking care of these things and you feel like you have more on your plate than you can reasonably handle, it is probably a good idea to find a new job. Employees can’t do their best work when they aren’t being supported, and it can be disheartening to go to work day after day and not be appreciated or get the support you need.

Figuring out that it is time to leave your job can be difficult and making the jump can be even more so. But if your job isn’t giving you what you need, it may be time to find something new where you can feel happier and meet your potential.
