More than a hundred days have passed since the protests began in Belarus after the presidential elections in August. Women have become the face of these peaceful protests that stand against injustice and violence. We asked Belarusian film producer Volia Chajkouskaya and freelance journalist and citizen activist Maris Hellrand to share their thoughts and to provide a bit of insight into what is happening in Belarus and what it means for us.

In the end of November Fotografiska Tallinn opened the exhibition ‘The Future of Belarus Fueled by Women’ that provides a documentary insight into the peaceful protests of Belarusian women against injustice. The images of the demonstrations captured by local photographers Darya Burakina, Iryna Arakhouskaya, Nadia Buzhan and Volha Shukaila tell the honest, painful, uncomfortable but also very human stories of the Belarusian women who have not stopped dreaming of a better country despite the efforts of – and threats of violence from – the local authorities.
The exhibition can be seen on the walls of Fotografiska Tallinn’s 1st floor café until 17th of December and then in Aparaaditehas in Tartu. The exhibition is also accompanied by a virtual gallery that can be found here.
