When we manipulate our kids consciously or unconsciously, they end up having to defend themselves against us. How many teenagers do you know that react defensively to their parents? They're not being rude, they are protecting themselves.

we start the pattern early when we tell kids if then when then.

if you brush your teeth, then we'll have time for a story.

when you finish your dinner we will go to the park.

if you don't at least try one bite you can't have dessert.

The examples of course are endless.  In this episode Sujai and Vivek explore in detail how to recognize  these subtle manipulations and transform them into collaborations.
