Getting Personal with Daphne Bugler and Isabella Hobbs

with Madeleine Ryan

Our guest today is an Australian writer, director, author and an outspoken advocate for neurodiversity. Her articles & essays have appeared in The Daily Telegraph, The Sydney Morning Herald, Vice, Bustle, Lenny & The New York Times. She has written extensively on what it is like to be an autistic woman and her personal experiences since learning she was autistic in recent years.

Her debut novel, ‘A Room Called Earth’, tells the story of a young autistic woman getting ready for and attending what is sure to be an eventful party. With each encounter during the evening, the vast discrepancies between what she is thinking, and feeling, and what she is able to say is revealed. The book is a highly personal and intimate adventure into the mind of one particular autistic woman, and a fascinating journey of self-acceptance. ‘A Room Called Earth’ is out now in the US and Canada, and available for pre-order in the UK, Australia and New Zealand.

This week we’re getting personal with Madeleine Ryan.
