35 years ago, when Prerana began it’s interventions there was a cycle of intergenerational trafficking - where every child born to a prostituted women was a free recruit into the sex trade and its allied activities. Prerana came up with the novel idea of a Night Care Centre where the children of the prostituted women would have access to opportunities and would be safe from the threats of the red-light area. In the late 90s and early 2000s mass raids were conducted to rescue women and girls in the red light areas. There was significant importance given to the rescue, while barely any regard to what happened to victims post their rescue. A lot of these women and girls were rescued to only get trafficked again.
