In this week’s episode, I dive deep on the topic of resilience with author, speaker, personal trainer, contest prep coach and counsellor Leon Stensholm.  We go into what resilience is, how it is created, whether it is something that intrinsically exists within us or whether it is something that needs to be built (nature vs nurture argument).  We look at how people handle tough times, how that differs and how we can help others to flex their resilience muscle.  

This is a truly powerful episode and was personally an amazing conversation to have - one that really stretched my mind and perspective on how adversity can shape us for the better and how in some people, they can crumble when they do not have resilience, when their resilience is tested beyond a certain point or when they do not feel supported. 

It provides us with an opportunity to reflect on how sport has played a key role in developing or at least flexing our resilience muscles for both myself and Leon who have been involved with sports from a young age.  Sport has taught us that you learn nothing from winning and everything from ‘losing’.  

How much can you tolerate?  How many times are you willing to get back up on your feet after something goes wrong, after you lose your business and your body’s full capacity to function?  How bad can life get whilst maintaining the same level of enthusiasm for it?  Interesting and powerful questions to ask yourself.
