Deficiencies of the ‘Health and Fitness’ Industry with Christian Woodford

There’s a reason for the quotation marks in the show title and I believe it’s fair to say that Christian and myself often feel as though the health and fitness industry ins’t doing what it should.  You would think that the health and fitness industry would help people rather than hurt or harm or even mislead people, but if often does. You should assume that when you turn up to work with a health and fitness professional that they would be sufficiently qualified but that is not always the case. You would hope that the industry would be saturated enough with experts that your journey could be streamlined by engaging the use of health and fitness services - this cannot always be said.

I have to say, I so love Christian’s passion and completely echo his frustrations being touted as arrogant or an asshole, the thing is, people who genuinely give a shit about the health, fitness and wellbeing of others cannot stand to see other people dip their toe into this industry which has the primary role of demonstrating CARE.  

When you have been in an industry as long as Christian has (15 years), you can spot ‘hobby’ personal trainers and ‘fitfluencers’ a mile away - you learn to smell BS.  If I’ve learned one thing over the years in working with people, it’s that you absolutely cannot fake genuine care for others.  You either care for someone and will therefore go out of your way to show it or you don’t.  If you’re the later, please, allow me to show you the door.  

What does the industry need?  More passionate people who care about betting themselves so that they can care for others and empower others to care for themselves.  There are AMPLE deficiencies within the health and fitness industry and we have a mountain to climb if we ever want to be seen in the same light as other professionals such as dentists, lawyers, engineers, pilots, IT experts etc.
