About Mea Culpa
My guest today is fighting the good fight for us all, Kris Goldsmith. Goldsmith is an Iraq combat Vet and dedicated hunter of fascists. He’s also an investigator, instructor, and champion of veterans rights. His company, Sparverius, detects and disrupts disinformation and domestic extremism. And also, check out the “community response guide” at Goldsmith’s website, TaskForceButler.org. The guide is written to help the average person take their first steps towards holding accountable people who target their neighborhoods with acts of hate. Again that’s TaskForceButler.org.
We’re glad to have our old friend, the legendary newsman, David Corn back on the show. Corn is the D.C. Bureau Chief of Mother Jones and an on-air analyst for MSMBC. He’s written four New York Times bestsellers, but his latest bestseller,” American Psychosis: A Historical Investigation of How the Republican Party Went Crazy” is a must-read for anyone interested in understanding why our republic is crumbling. Also, check out, “Our Land” — his twice-weekly newsletter that covers everything from news of the day to entertainment, but all told in Corn’s no-bullshit style. Today we will discuss everything from the war in Gaza to the insanity of our politics here at home.
Anyway, welcome to this special holiday episode of Mea Culpa. We’re going to get right to the main event… because our conversation is with one of the most articulate and effective Democratic statesmen working on Capitol Hill today, Democratic Congressman Jamie Raskin. Raskin has been serving as the U.S. representative for Maryland's 8th congressional district since 2017. He also served in the Maryland State Senate from 2007 to 2016. Raskin is known as a great champion of civil rights and is proud of his left-of-center voting records saying, his “ambition is not to be in the political center, it is to be in the moral center.” To that end, Raskin was a Manager during Trump’s second Impeachment trial. He was also appointed to the House Special Select Committee on the January 6th attacks, after which he famously said in his closing statements, quote, “In a world of resurgent authoritarianism, racism, and antisemitism, let’s all hang tough for American democracy.” …I’m with Jamie. And today we will discuss everything from the fallout from the War in Gaza to the current state of Congress.
