Taking A Step Back - How to Know When You Need to Take A Break

Deciding to take a break or a step back from people & responsibilities in our life can be one of the hardest things ever. Especially when pride is involved. But that's why I want to encourage you to take a break & share some signs that will alert you of when you really need to take a step back.

I decided to take a break with pumping out episodes for this show because my life was kind of spiraling. I was feeling super overwhelmed with my day job, with my responsibilities at home in regards to my daughter & husband & following my passions, like this podcast & posting encouragements on my Instagram page. But this show is not something I am willing to give up.

This brings me so much happiness, joy & fulfillment to share helpful knowledge with others that I knew I wasn’t just done with it, I just needed to take a step back. I just needed a break. This is why I thought it would be perfect to talk about how to know when you need a break. Because we all need a break at some point.

Now, I believe we all know we need a break at some point or another, but we don’t take the break because we don’t recognize those feelings as real or the need for a break as necessary or we are too proud to take the break because we don’t want others to think less of us or even ourselves. Ego is definitely involved here sometimes. But we know that this is what gets us in trouble.

We don’t just accept that we need time away from whatever it is. It can be work, it can be friends, family, hobbies, responsibilities. And these don’t necessarily have to be things that we don’t like & enjoy. These can be things we love dearly, but still need some time away for a refresh.

I don’t think we only need to take a step back from things that bother us or things we don’t really enjoy doing but have to do. It’s completely normal to step back from people & activities that are closest to our heart because those things can still cause us to feel stressed and/or overwhelmed. And that’s ok.

If you get nothing but me telling you that it’s actually ok for you to take a break from these things, I’ll be happy. It’s the biggest point I want to get across. And there will be people in your life that won’t understand this, but that’s not important. Everyone has an opinion & that’s fine. But it doesn’t mean you have to accept it or live your life by it.

Let me share with you some signs that you may need to step back & take a break from whatever’s going on in your life:

  1. You react to situations instead of responding
  2. You’re annoyed by minor inconveniences
  3. You no longer prioritize caring for yourself
  4. You start judging & comparing yourself to others too much
  5. Changes are really shaking you up more than normal
  6. What used to make you happy now causes you pain
  7. You’re more tired & worn out than normal
