Dealing With Things Not Going Your Way - Feeling Like Life Isn't Fair

We can get so caught up in obsessing about what hasn't & isn't working out for us that we forget to think about what is going well & what we need to be more grateful for. Let me help you with your mindset for when we get stuck in this headspace!

Show Notes:

We all create a plan for our lives & think we are the best architect for the job because we know ourselves best. And believe we can come up with the best options because it’s supposed to be all about what we enjoy & what we think would best suit us, right? I’m here to tell you this isn’t correct.

We don’t know everything. Not even about ourselves. And you know why? Because we change. We change with time, pressure, experiences, opportunities, the people that come in & out of our lives. It all affects us. So we can’t expect the choices we made about our lives & the way it should go when we were 15 or 19 or even 25 to be the ones that direct our lives forever.

And the other thing that has really been nagging on me is timing. We think we know the best timing for everything, but we don’t. We couldn’t possibly know this because we don’t know what learning lessons, mistakes, or failures are gonna show up & change us for the better. There’s no real way to predict these things. And we shouldn’t be worrying about predicting these, either. The point is to go through the experience & come out the other side with new knowledge, new experiences & hopefully a new mindset.

Let’s talk about dealing with those things we really really wanted to work out for us not working out.

There is a reason for everything. It’s a super cliche phrase & thing to say, but it’s still true. You can’t deny truth, no matter how cheesy it is. There is a reason you didn’t end up with that deadbeat partner, didn’t get that what-you-thought-was-gonna-be-great dream job, had to move back home, didn’t get into that college, gained a bunch of weight, lost the competition, lost your job or anything else.

And for sure, it doesn't feel good while it’s happening. But you’re being protected from other things in the process. And I know that’s not comforting in the moment, either, but if you reflect back on your life, you will be able to see where those path changes happened & how it’s good that it did. You have to be confident that you will be able to do that with these current disappointments you are dealing with now. And I know it’s not easy, but it does become a little easier over time, once you stop relying on yourself to make all the decisions & choose the right path & trust God is on your side.

Here are some helpful tips for getting through dealing with things not going your way. Because I know that giving you a motivational speech about it is helpful, but actual action steps are preferable.

  1. Ask yourself what did you learn from the experience up until the point it ended?
  2. Realize that others are dealing with this, too.
  3. Feel free to vent about how you are feeling to someone you trust, but don’t dwell on the situation too long.
  4. Be open to the direction you are actually headed in, rather than mourn where you were going or wanting to go.
  5. Remember to be grateful for what is going well & the way you want in your life.
