Studies show that kids’ emotional success is much less dependent on the quantity of difficult things that happen to them and much more on their experience with them. As parents, we can’t always control what happens to our kids—nor would we want to. But we can control how we support our kids through whatever does happen. And, this support piece is much more powerful to their emotional health anyway. On this episode we break down the “how-to” of emotion coaching. We discuss five simple steps to walk your child through a big emotion. This is the third in a series on emotion coaching kids. If you haven’t listened to episode #39 and #40—those are helpful pre-cursers to this episode.
On this episode you’ll learn:
- The five steps to emotion coaching
- How to help your kids feel understood but still set limits and move forward
- If emotion coaching can be used for positive emotions
- Practical applications and examples for emotion coaching for young kids and teens
