Toxic Positivity
Toxic Positivity might be a term you’ve heard tossed around recently and Stephen Shedletzky, Lead Igniter at Simon Sinek, Inc. and Alicia are chatting about what it means, and the problems that surround it - especially from a leadership perspective.
Toxic positivity is the belief that no matter how dire or difficult a situation is, people should maintain a positive mindset. It's a "good vibes only" approach to life. The challenge with this is toxic positivity can deny people of the experience of feeling and sharing their emotions. It can lead to gaslighting – a form of psychological abuse where a person or group makes someone question their sanity, perception of reality or memories.
Stephen engages with people in meaningful ways, so that we connect with depth and live in a more fulfilled world. He knows that every single one of us has strengths and believes it is our human right to use those strengths to contribute toward something bigger than ourselves.
Stephen joined Simon’s team in 2012, answering fan emails, and now leads Brand Experience and a global team of speakers and facilitators. Stephen helps leaders as they build cultures where people feel inspired, safe & fulfilled.
