Listen to the first edition of The Ideas Exchange podcast.

ASX’s Senior Investment Product specialist - Martin Dinh - talks to Dan Annan from BetaShares about the rise in popularity of ETFs and the outlook for the year ahead.

In the very first episode of The Ideas Exchange podcast, host and Senior Product Manager at ASX - Martin Dinh, caught up with Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs) expert, Dan Annan, who is the Director and Head of Institutional Business at BetaShares. BetaShares is one of Australia’s largest ETF providers, managing over $14 billion in assets and offering 60 ETFs on ASX.

Whilst the COVID-19 Pandemic has rocked markets globally and created uncertainty for investors, many people have chosen to start their investing journey  for the first time. Martin and Dan discussed how lockdowns and isolation freed up time for many new investors to research markets and consider investment opportunities.  They also point to the fact that millennials who did not experience the GFC are now at an age where they’ve gained enough capital to enter the market, and the pandemic has provided an opportunity to do so.

Dan and Martin also discuss the importance of diversification and the rising popularity of ETFs. They share some tips on what to look out for before investing, considering things like limit orders and the importance of doing your homework. Dan also identifies key themes to look out for in the coming months, including technology, cyber security and the global political atmosphere.
