About The Jeff Gerstmann Show - A Podcast About Video Games
The Game Awards has unveiled this year’s nominees, so let’s take a look at that. Also: How about Puzzmo, the new daily puzzle page from Zach Gage and crew? We’ll also go over the entirety of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, the new OLED Steam Deck, Remedy’s move out of free-to-play, a GTA6 letter from Rockstar, and your emails!
A new Robocop game with dialogue trees? Sure! Sure, what the heck, why not? Let’s talk a bit about that along with the disappointing new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III campaign, the continued brilliance of Alan Wake 2, The Glory Society, the future of Destiny, the next Nintendo device, escaping The Escapist, and more.
Let’s take a break from returning all of these bootleg controllers to the stores we bought them from to enjoy a podcast about Alan Wake 2, PS5 drive pairing, Nintendo’s tournament regulations, Bungie’s layoffs, the Digital Eclipse acquisition, The Finals, and more.
The show is here and it’s time to talk about Super Mario Bros. Wonder. Let’s also delve into the new Metal Gear Solid collection while discussing the franchise’s place in history. We’ll also cover some of the layoffs at PlayStation studios, Xbox’s next steps, and the different ways in which Discovery feels like an impossible problem to solve in this day and age.
Jeff’s back from the hospital with a fresh batch of harrowing tales from the world of childbirth! He’s also got some low-rent energy drink as well as details of his time with Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Forza Motorsport, the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III beta, those Intellivision Amico games that are burning up the Steam charts, and more. We’ll also talk about the end of the Microsoft/Activision saga, the end of Wii U online support, the end of John Riccitiello’s time at Unity, and the end of the big, bulky PlayStation 5.
The show they said could never exist… now available for your listening enjoyment! Due to the stop ‘n’ start nature of labor, we’re still not at the hospital yet! This baby will be here before too long, but while things are both extremely quiet and extremely tense, let’s get a podcast in and discuss the layoffs at Epic, the quality of El Paso, Elsewhere, Jim Ryan’s departure, PlayStation’s overall strategy, the cancelation of Hyenas, and more!
This post originally said "if you're seeing this, it means I'm heading to the hospital to watch my wife have a baby! Be back soon, wish us luck, all that good stuff." That's not 100% accurate, but it's close enough. Yesterday my wife started contractions, signaling that we're nearing the end of the road on this whole having a baby thing. Around the same time, both of our kids came down with... something. My son's got a fever, my daughter doesn't. We ended up sending my wife out in an attempt to keep her from getting sick, which so far has worked out. But the sickness is lingering. I haven't come down with anything yet and... yeah, I don't know. The person who was going to watch the kids while we go to the hospital is someone we really don't want to get covid, so now we're faced with trying to ascertain what, exactly, these kids have and deciding if the existing plan is still good or not. So far the tests have been negative. Seems likely that my wife will go into proper labor today, but hey, who knows. Either way, I'll be out of range for a little bit while we get all this stuff done. Wasn't expecting this last-minute illness in the plans, but it'll all be fine in the end.
A continued look at some leaked Xbox emails, Capcom weighs in on the acquisition talk of yesteryear, Unity keeps digging… also, the Cyberpunk 2077 DLC is out now along with more talk of F-Zero 99, El Paso, Elsewhere, the future of The Calisto Protocol, the next Steam Deck, and more!
Unity continues fumbling around as it burns up whatever goodwill it had left in the game development community! Meanwhile, a zillion documents about upcoming Xbox hardware leak out… is this the end of physical media in green boxes? Also Mortal Kombat 1, Titanfall 2, F-Zero 99? That’s a lot of numbers! There ain’t no need to get your face wet, push play on this episode immediately!
Starfield is here and after spending another 10 hours or so with it since last we spoke, it’s starting to look a little rough around the edges, so let’s catch up on that! Then we’ll talk about Sega’s Hyenas, s&box, the closure of Volition, the PlayStation Plus Price Hike, and more!
Gamescom comes and Gamescom goes, the new PSP is formally announced and priced, Baldur’s Gate 3 gets waived onto Xbox earlier than anticipated, oh, and also Armored Core VI, The Making of Karateka, Immortals of Aveum, AEW Fight Forever’s Stadium Stampede mode, and Whisker Squadron: Survivor are discussed! Also your questions about everything from Famitsu to Minivans!
It’s almost time for Gamescom Opening Night Live, so let’s cover some of the news that’s already happening in the pre-Gamescom era, like the way Microsoft is lining up Ubisoft to take over cloud operations for the Activision Blizzard lineup. Or how about Charles Martinet! That guy’s not going to voice Mario anymore? That’s weird! Plus some Xenotilt and Immortals of Aveum talk, all on this densely packed episode of The Jeff Gerstmann Show!
Fighting game news out of Evo like City of the Wolves, Reptile, and Ninja Turtles get discussed! Let’s also talk about the Payday 3 beta, Viewfinder, my new endeavor to rank every NES game released in the US of A, the future of Modern Warfare, Red Dead Remaster, and more.
Well, we’ve got two news stories discussing new hardware, so it must be that weird mid-point in the cycle. Let’s discuss Nintendo’s potential Switch 2 and the PlayStation 5 Pro. We’ll also talk about Disney Illusion Island, Ratchet & Clank on PC, Remnant 2’s hidden class, and more!
Diablo IV’s season is upon us and people are… unhappy! In other news, Ubisoft complies with data regulations, the ESRB wants to use your face to protect your kids, Blizzard wants Overwatch 2 on Steam, and Jeff wants John Cena in Mortal Kombat 1. We’re left wanting on this week’s edition of the program!
Microsoft rebrands Xbox Live Gold, the Famicom turns 40, Jeff tells the story about that Penny Arcade comic strip and the potential job offer that came afterwards, and we’re also talkin’ Xenotilt, Exoprimal, and Diablo IV’s upcoming Season 1 all on this week’s edition of The Jeff Gerstmann Show.
