Like many kids I loved watching Disney films growing up (of course my favourites were Mulan and Beauty and the Beast). But Disney has a problem with representation - there are still no disabled Disney princesses. Disability advocate and film fanatic Hannah Diviney was tired of this. Having Cerebral Palsy, she hated not being able to see Disney princesses like her. So she did something about it. She created a petition calling on Disney to make a disabled Disney Princess. Over 33,000 people have signed this petition and now Hannah is having discussions with Disney Australia. During our interview we spoke about Hannah’s groundbreaking petition, representation in film and misconceptions about disabilities.
During our conversation Hannah recommended following these people:
- Alice Wong - @disability_visibility
- Dylan Alcott - @dylanalcott
- Carly Findlay - @carlyfindlay
- Keah Brown - @keahbrown
