In this episode I begin discussing a model of the stages of growth we experience as humans, particularly regarding our spirituality and consciousness. Looking at ourselves and the rest of the world through the lens of this model can help us develop greater understanding of others and also appreciate how we have come to be where we are right now. If we hope to keep growing it's important to know how growth occurs and what we can do to foster it. I'll talk more about the 4 most common stages in the next episode. This episode includes:
- How our growth in consciousness resembles an expanding sphere rather than a ladder or staircase.
- Growing to a new stage requires us to transcend and include the previous stage.
- Every stage is necessary and important and no stage can be skipped as we develop.
- We each have a "set point" for our consciousness that we develop to without much effort but further growth requires us to work on ourselves.
- When we have "maxed out" at one stage we may begin to feel discontent, constrained, and uncomfortable as a sign that we need to work on further growth.
