We’re continuing on with our August series on giving. Today’s guest, Charles E Goodman Jr. is going to be discussing the often debated topic of tithing. Charles has served for the last 13 years as Senior Pastor and Teacher of the 9,700-member, multi-site Tabernacle Baptist Church in Augusta, GA. He’s the author of three books and is currently preparing to begin work on earning his 7th Degree!

There are a lot of opinions out there about tithing. Should we tithe or not? How much should we tithe? What’s the Bible really say about tithing? Is tithing just an old testament thing? Should you tithe if you’re in debt? Is tithing the same thing as giving? Should you tithe on your gross, net, or does it even matter?

Today Charles is going to share a little of the message that he shares with his congregation regarding tithing, which may be a little different than you’ve heard before. He’s also going to share a little with us about his personal financial story including his upbringing and how he’s earned all those degrees with almost no student loan debt.

In This Episode We Discuss:

  • The eye-opening experience Charles had about finances when he got to college
  • How he was able to get scholarships to cover his degrees
  • The desire to change generational wealth
  • The dangers of trying to keep up with the financial perception
  • The holistic approach to tithing: Offering of time, talent, testimony, and treasure.
  • The 10/10/80 plan for your finances
  • The importance of being part of a church that you’re comfortable supporting and what to do if you’re not.
  • Why you need to change the way you view your financial failures so they don’t hold you back
