Sometimes I coach you to have your back when someone is upset with you over something you've done. And sometimes, like today, I coach you on how to apologize and truly mean it when you've treated someone you care about in a way you're not proud of. But we dive deeper than just the apology, we go into the act of repairing any damage caused. Its a fact of life that some people are not going to like what you have to say or what you do. We’re all driven by different things, we were taught how to behave by different parents with different value systems. It is also a fact of life that your brain is wired to look for the threats and pay more attention to the boos. But, just because there will always be people who don’t like that way you’re doing it, doesn’t men you shouldn’t. In todays episode I talk about how to let the doubters and haters be there, but train your brain to focus on those cheering for you to win. Nothing has gone wrong when your brain focuses on the negative, that is what our brains were designed to do. Its kept us alive for all these years. But, most of these “threats” aren’t actually a matter of life and death. So, can we re-direct our brains to focus on the fans you’ve got? You can stay in your cozy cave where nothing can hurt you, but you miss out on the big beautiful world awaiting you when you step outside your cave and risk being disliked, made fun of, or boo’d. Well, we made it through the holiday season. Some of us loved every second, and some of us were barely holding on through the chaos… all of us are on the other side of it now. And perhaps, if you’re like me, you picked up a habit or two that aren’t serving you right now. Maybe you’re drinking more than you’d like, maybe you’re eating more sugar than you’d like, maybe you aren’t moving your body the way you’d like… so, in today’s episode I walk you through how to hit the reset button and regain control. And I like to call it 24 HOURS OF INTENTION. Focus on your goal/habit for 24 hours. You can do anything for a day. And then, anticipate a temper tantrum in your brain, feel the pain associated with standing up to your primal brain and honoring your highest self… and then, do it again. No more going through the motions, or walking through life with our brain turned off. Bring intention back, and cultivate a you that you like and love. I love rituals. And I love believing in magic and something higher than me. I love trusting that I am not alone, and that everything I go through I asked for. I heard about this ritual that puts a bow on this year we just lived, and brings anticipation for the year to come. The idea is writing down 13 wishes you want for yourself in 2024, but they all need to be something that you would feel comfortable making come true. Its the most wonderful time of the year, right? So why have I been feeling so low? A couple weeks ago my depression came on, and it came on strong. There were a few things that seemed to be the catalyst for it, but regardless of why its here, in todays episode I want to share with you what I am doing to manage through it. I have 8 tips that I have been deploying during this season that help me make sure I am taking care of me and not adding to the list of reasons my brain has for not being good enough. I do want to make it clear, I am not a medical professional and this isn’t medial advice. If you are experiencing depression (or any other mental illness) I encourage you to reach out to your doctor, or a therapist, and get help. You don’t have to white knuckle it through alone. Asking for help doesn’t make you weak, it makes you STRONGER THAN MOST. Also, if your emotions and mental health are not in a space where it can handle a discussion about depression, please protect your peace and table this episode for a time when your brain is feeing more open to this. As we grow, comfort zones and requests grow and change with us. Change is hard. Our brains don’t like it, and the people who are effected by us changing can often struggle with how it impacts them. As we begin to prioritize ourselves and insource our lives, we might need to pull out of commitments we once were all in on, or set a boundary that had never been enforced before, or create discomfort for people we care about as a result of prioritizing you. And this feels HARD. But, hard doesn’t mean we’re doing it wrong. As we journey inwards, hard often means we’re finally doing it right… we’re dealing with the right kind of hard. In todays episode I share what holding space looks like, and why it is such an important piece of growth. Space for you, and space for those around you. We can’t all think the exact same, nor would we want to. But if we’re not careful, these differences can lead to frustration and resentment… which is never something I’m going to sign up for. On the surface our fears sound reasonable… I am afraid of confrontation, I am afraid of public speaking, I am afraid of what they’ll say or what they’ll think. You talk to your friends about your fear and mot can relate. BUT, what if what you’re afraid of isn’t actually what you’re afraid of at all? In todays episode I offer a different way to look at your fears, to dig deeper, to peel back the layers and see what is hiding underneath that surface fear. And, spoiler alert, its your THOUGHTS. We’re not *truly* afraid of what’s going on outside of us, as much as we’re afraid of what could go on inside of us. And when we can see and recognize that, it takes some of the power from that fear. Most of us have gone our whole lives spending all of our attention on being whole the world has told us to be, filtering ourselves through the lease of “what are they thinking of me.” We have a fear that we’re not good enough, that we don’t bring enough value, that we’re too much, that we’re annoying, that they won’t like us, etc… but like, SO WHAT? Maybe they don’t like you. Maybe you are too much for them, or not smart enough, or speak too confidently. When you stop to think about it, its not a problem that you’re not everyone’s cup of tea. There’s not a soul on the planet who has everyone in their pocket. What matters is whether or not YOU LIKE YOU. The number one way to build self confidence, is to follow through on the commitments you make to yourself. The thing is, we generally make BIG commitments, like: I’m going to start this workout program and not miss a day, its 60 minutes a day for 60 days. I’m doing my diet for real this time. No more sugar, carbs, junk food, alcohol, etc. I am going to build this side hustle into something great so that I can leave my full time job Etc. Etc. But, then, when things get hard, because it is too much pressure or too much of a departure from your normal life, you give up. And, when you give up consistently over time, you hemorrhage trust with yourself. You learn that you can’t count on you. You learn that you are ok with disappointing yourself, as long as you’re not disappointing others. In todays episode I walk you through how to start building that trust back… with micro goals. Things that don’t require a TON from you, but require just enough to build that mind management and stay committed to your goal. Things that, as you do them, you learn you actually CAN do hard things, just not all at once.
