On the 7th of August, 2008 the contagious situation between the Georgian government, South Ossetian separatist and the Russian Federation escalated into an all-out war. The short but brutal war that followed saw the displacement of hundreds of thousands of people and has later been called the conflict where the rulebook of Russian asymmetric warfare was written.
