T4 Tips Podcast #1 – January 2, 2006 Show Notes

Welcome to the T4 Tips podcast. The T4 team is currently comprised of 4 members, Margo Shirley, Kelly Dumont, Bonnie Muir, and Darren Draper. We will be bringing you a weekly podcast full of tips for integrating technology into the classroom. For this first episode, we think we need to answer a few questions.

What is a podcast?
In general a podcast is nothing more than an audio (or video) file that has been put online. Generally it is in the .mp3 (.m4v) format. It can be listened to on your computer, downloaded and listened to on an .mp3 player, or downloaded and burned to a CD that can be played on any CD player. The one thing that sets podcasts apart from just a regular audio (or video) file is that it is also set up on a feed that can be subscribed to. That means if you want to automatically get new episodes of a podcast you can set up a program such as iTunes to download them as they become available.

What are these podcasts about?
We intend to use these podcasts to provide tips and tricks for you and to help keep you informed about what is going on with technology integration here in Jordan School District. Each week of the month we will cover a different topic. One week will be devoted to Windows tips, another to Macintosh tips, a third to open source software, and the fourth a general tech tip.

Why should you listen to the podcast?

  • To help you learn new things without having to leave your desk.
  • To learn about new technologies.
  • To keep up with what is going on with technology integration in Jordan School District.

How often will there be a podcast?
A new Tip of the Week show will come out each Tuesday morning beginning on January 9th. Again each week will have a slightly different focus. We will also be introducing a monthly video podcast in the near future that will feature what you and other teachers are doing to integrate technology in your classrooms.

Wait a minute, you guys talk too fast, where was that website you talked about?
For each podcast there will be shownotes available on the T4 website. In the shownotes you will find links to any websites or other podcasts or whatever else we mention during the show.

What if I want something covered on the podcast?
If you have suggestions for future topics for the podcast, leave a comment on the T4 website or send an email to one of the T4 team.
