We Had The Talk About Being Black & LGBTQIA+

We Had The Talk
We Had The Talk

In this episode, co-hosts Jasmin and Kiana Brooks speak with special guest Jalen Carver about the unique experiences of being Black and LGBTQIA+ in America today. Through this episode, we discuss intersectionality, the impact of multiple minority stress, and homophobia both within and outside of Black culture. We also discuss the importance of being proud of one’s Black LGBTQIA+ identity and hope to create a platform to foster understanding and increase the acceptance of the LGBTQIA+ community, as well as challenge our listeners to truly be anti-homophobic and anti-transphobic in their daily lives.

For anyone unfamiliar with the term LGBTQIA+, it is a term that, "acts as an evolution toward inclusion — an expansion of the language used to represent a disparate group that had often just been called “the gay community.” - The New York Times.

This episode is a continuation of Season 1: We Had The Talk About Being Black in America, which provides insight into some of the difficulties Black people face on the day to day as we attempt to navigate a white world.
