Franca Viola ville inte gifta sig. Inte enbart av anledningen att hon bara var 15 år gammal, utan för att den som sade sig ha rätten att förlova sig med henne var mannen som våldtagit henne.

Med sin familj i ryggen sade Franca nej till det som då, på Sicilien år 1963, kallades ett rehabiliterande äktenskap. Ett äktenskap som liksom suddar ut tidigare brott och gör dem ogjorda.
