Today Can Be a New Day For You - Don't Let Yesterday Hold You Back

You can make every single day a new day if you choose to. Let's talk about why that's important & a couple of tips on how to go about it.

I think I talk about this topic of accepting & understanding that every single day can be a new day a lot because it’s really hard to believe. It’s hard to believe this when you are in a really hard season of life. It’s really hard to accept when life doesn’t feel like it’s getting better or easier or anything. And it’s really difficult to leave behind the hurts, the pains, the betrayal, the loneliness, the love & the confusion.

It’s really tough for me to leave behind emotions that haven’t fully been figured out. Like trying to understand why this person doesn’t like me, love me, why they hate me, why this relationship is the way it is. Or even the things that didn’t go my way or exactly the way I wanted it to go or even why I couldn’t figure something out about my life.

But to be honest, these are all things that don’t need to be our concern. We can’t change the past & the future isn’t in our control, either. So the best thing to do is learn from everything we go through, good & bad, & move forward to experience what comes next.

But in our attempts to let go of what has happened in the past, it’s important to know that allowing ourselves to have a fresh start every single day can be life changing, depending on how deep our control issues go or how high our anxiety can be.

Today can be a new day for you, if you let it be. You can’t just expect some magic to happen that will force you to have a good day. You have to make the cognitive choice to allow the day to be a new day, not allow your baggage from the previous day(s) drag you down into the following days & understand that by allowing yourself to have a fresh start, you will be stronger than you were before. You will have the opportunity to have a new perspective on this new day & even the ones from before. You are not allowing the past to cloud your vision for the future. You are not allowing what happened yesterday to get in the way of today.

Here are a couple of tips to start each day as a new day without letting yesterday get in the way:

  1. Evaluate your day at the end of THAT day, not the next day.
  2. Commit to understanding that lessons need to be learned from past experiences to serve you better in the future.
  3. Decide who you want to be today & commit to those attributes.
  4. Understand you can’t enjoy today if you’re so worried about yesterday & tomorrow.
