Today's guest is Dr. Tamara McClintock Greenberg. She is a clinical psychologist in private practice in San Francisco and a clinical professor of psychiatry at the University of California. She is also an author and her latest book is The Complex PTSD Coping Skills Workbook: An Evidence-Based Approach to Manage Fear and Anger, Build Confidence, and Reclaim Your Identity. During the episode, Tamara talks about the importance of having present day coping skills to manage some of the common symptoms of complex PTSD such as anger and fear and how they can show up in present day relationships. She shares why she views Trauma as an "Identity Theft" and talks about the difference between PTSD and Complex PTSD. Tamara's writing has focused on care taking, health psychology, psychodynamic psychology, women’s issues and trauma, with the aim of helping people navigate complex physical and/or psychological issues. Tamara is the author of six books and numerous contributed chapters. She is a champion of combining multiple approaches to treating the nuances and intricacies of psychological problems and has advocated for integration of psychotherapy methods, as dogmatic adherence to just 1-2 approaches can limit the help we can provide to clients. Charity was raised in an ultra conservative religious community where she experienced developmental and complex trauma. Charity was taught to never question authority or the teachings and interpretations of the religious community. When she would question, she was told she was being "rebellious". In order to be accepted by her family and community she had to submit with strict adherence. Charity talks about how she is slowly coming to terms with the impact of the trauma and rebuilding a beautiful life of authenticity, grace, faith and freedom. Today I am joined with Emily Daniels, the author and creator of The Regulated Classroom. The Regulated Classroom is a Trauma informed/Polyvagal-informed approach to cultivating conditions for felt safety in the classroom. Traditional approaches have tended to be seen through the lens of a behavioural paradigm. Without the understanding of the autonomic nervous system from a Polyvagal and Somatic perspective, one may conclude that behaviour or responses are always choice driven. Polyvagal Theory offers an understanding for why we may behave /respond in the way that we do. With this understanding, behaviours make more sense and it opens the space for more compassionate and curiousity. You can visit Emily's website here https://regulatedclassroom.com/ You can also follow her on Instagram @ theregulatedclassroom Somatic Trauma Informed Coaching with Monique and resources @www.Thehealingtraumapodcast.com Thank you Emily @ The Regulated Classroom for supporting this episode.

On today's episode I am joined with Erica Hornthal. Erica is a dance and movement therapist and licensed clinical professional counselor. She is also known as the "Therapist Who Moves You. " Erica is also the Author of a new book Body Aware, a step-by-step journey how a mindful movement practice can slow down thoughts to lessen anxiety and panic and impact how and what we feel. When we talk about movement, most of us think "exercise". But the way we move our bodies, how we walk, roll, dance, stretch, stretch, connect, and take up space - is about so much more than physical fitness. Erica shares about how our movements impact our mental health and wellbeing and when we change the way we move, we can change the way we experience life. She even shares a little gentle practice with us during the episode. Body aware helps readers to learn and identify where they physically hold their emotions, understand and interpret their body's unique language, explore bodily sensations, identify emotional blockages and upgrade harmful thought cycles to patterns that instead foster resilience, emotional regulation, and productivity. During the episode she even shares a gentle movement practice.
